frugal friday

Let's go on a field trip for today's
Today I'm going to share the hidden gems you can find at your local $1 Store.

Here are the things that I have found to be consistently cheaper at my Dollar Tree
when compared to other stores, such as Walmart, Target & your local groceries.

(It should be noted that there's no compensation going on here.
I'm just a frugal fanny trying to share some deals!)

cleaning products
Although I'm making our household cleaners now, I was an avid Dollar Tree shopper for cleaning products in the past. You'll often find name-brand products for a lot less. If you're interested in doing more "green" cleaners, the Dollar Tree is still a great source for empty spray bottles, sponges, & basics like hydrogen peroxide & white vinegar.

gift wrap & party supplies
Plates, napkins, plastic silverware, cups, even disposable trays are all organized by color and sold at a great price. Though we don't do lots of partying/entertaining, this has been my go-to place for birthday party supplies & game night paper products.
I know this is a given for most, but I'll share it in case there's someone out there who doesn't know of the hidden gem we call the gift wrap section of the Dollar Store. Seriously, I'll never pay full price for gift bags, tissue paper, bows or wrapping paper ever again. And did you know they have balloons? I'll never pay $5 for a helium-filled birthday balloon EVER again.

greeting cards
$4 and $5 greeting cards are one of the biggest wastes of money I can think of. Seriously, 99% of the time the cards get tossed, regardless of the occasion. Save your money and stock up on greeting cards for everything from birthdays to baptisms, all at $0.50 a piece.

batteries
We have entered that glorious stage where at least half of Luke's current toys require batteries. Now we are going through AA's and AAA's like it's our job. I recently discovered the "Battery Center," aka an endcap at my Dollar Tree. Eight AA batteries for $1? Don't mind if I do. I've also found AAA's, C's, D's and a few random small/watch-sized batteries as well.

and some other random fun finds

need a quick replacement iPhone case? check the Dollar Store

want some fabric cubes to organize a laundry room, garage or pantry?
You'll only need a few dolla dolla bills to get it done.

storage baskets in all shapes, sizes and colors
(I bought so many of these for my classroom when I was a teacher!)

shipping supplies
you'll pay a fraction of what you'd pay at the post office

and flashcards!
we're not at the flashcard age yet, but I was still pretty impressed by the selection offered at my $1 store

Any other Dollar Tree shoppers out there?
I'd love to know what you can snag for only a buck!

I LOVE the Dollar Tree!! Bailey has every single princess puzzle they offer :) I've also been lucky to score some raw sugar, pregnancy tests (behind the counter), and those baby q-tips (the ones with the fatter swabs). I have to say that I was not impressed with their batteries though. I bought them once and there wasn't even enough power to take away the "needs batteries" sign on my camera. So I never bought them again. It may be different for toys? Anyway, great post! YAY Dollar Tree! :)

I loved this post! I've used those fabric bins in my closet-- what a deal! I also can't get over those phone cases-like you said, they'd make a quick, cheap replacement.

My favorite dollar tree items are the coloring books and work books. I bought my 4 year old daughter the Disney Kindergarten work books and she loves them. :)

When I was having trouble getting pregnant I bought my ovulation tests there. And maybe about 300 pregnancy tests. They work perfectly fine. Actually I got a positive in a dollar store test before I did in an expensive one.

^^ Haha Amanda! ^^ I always get party supplies and wrapping paper at the dollar store, too! Also some sweet balls, and instruments that Addie loves (like maracas). Frugal on!
