let's talk diapers

I need some mama wisdom from YOU.

If you use disposable diapers for your kiddos, I need your input!

Luke has been in disposable diapers at night for a long time. As much as we love the cost savings of the cloth diapers, they just don't absorb at night like the sposies do. Luke used Pampers Swaddlers as a newborn and then we switched to Huggies as our disposable diaper of choice. The Huggies have worked beautifully for daytime use when we're traveling out of town and, up until recently, have been flawless for nighttime as well.

Now we've entered the Luke leaks out of everything at night stage and I'm really tired of washing crib sheets and mattress protectors. It's time for a change and I need your help!

I'm thinking of trying out the Huggies nighttime diapers.
I've heard that these really do absorb more, especially if you buy them a size larger than normal.

I've also heard good things about the Target brand of diapers, especially for boys.
Does anyone have any experience with these at night?

Let's talk diapers!

I had the same problem with both my boys. Finally found that for Eli, Huggies nighttime diapers work great and I put a waterproof sheet protector under him just in case (I too was sick of washing sheets every day). For Colin, pampers baby dry work best and I put a cloth diaper over it. I would try the Huggies for Luke...I think they'll work.

Huggies overnights worked awesome for both of our kids! Yes, buy a little on the big side!

Hey! I had this exact problem with my kiddos. We put Wesley in the Huggies overnights in a size up from what he normally wore. He was wearing size 4 diapers, but I put him in size 5 overnights. For B, she only leaked thru sometimes so I just doubled up her diapers at night and most days she could wear the outer diaper for the morning until her next diaper change.

Ugh-- I can totally relate! My first daughter leaked out at night on a regular basis, so I bought the Pampers overnight diapers. I did not notice a big difference (even though there was a big price difference).

Instead, I would put her in the generic diapers (Member's Mark from Sam's Club) during the day and a size up of regular Pampers diaper at night. Never had another issue!

I had the same problem with Trey - so I'm going to say now, the Target ones are fine for your daytime back ups but if you want that kid dry and to sleep comfy all night you need to get some huggies overnights, one size up. Promise! It'll change your life. Target has em!! :) Sometimes they have coupons on the target site that you can stack with a manufacturer too!! Worth EVERY penny!!!

(You may also want to try to start limiting fluids after a certain time at night - I was never good at that but I know it worked for some people!!)

We've been doing the same--cloth during day and disposables at night. We used to just be able to double stuff the cloth at night, but lately that isn't cutting it! We've just been using Target brand diapers, and those have worked fine for us. But it sounds like you may have a heavier leaker!

seventh generation worked for anna who was big pee'er. plus it has no bad stuff

for cloth i did two cloth liners, a chinese prefold and a wool soaker at night time.... worked amazingly

I have been thinking of this exact same subject for weeks. I put Noah in Pampers Baby Dry since he was a newborn, tried swaddlers and now I'm on cruisers during the day and Pamper's Extra Protection and nothing works. Last night I changed him TWICE. One of the main reasons he wakes up is from being soaking wet. I will def take the advise of the ladies on here and try Huggies Overnite- one size up. Good luck to you and please post a follow-up to this!

We have used Huggies Overnites since our son was little and they work really well. We might have one or two leaks a month which I consider really good and he is in them for about 12 hours at a time.

Huggies Overnites have been working for us. My little boy rarely leaks out of them, and he has some pretty full morning diapers. It's only on the rare occasion that my husband doesn't tighten them enough that we have leakage.

Huggies Overnights were a lifesaver when I found them. We had literally been washing the sheets every day for weeks and they were the last one I tried because I don't like Huggies for some reason. I fell in love that night and he used them for 2 years every night and maybe had 5 leak outs thats it :) Good luck!

Had the same problem with my boy. Huggies Overnights all the way.

We use both reusable and disposable. Even when I double up the insert at night, Karlyanne will leak out at times. Other nights we use Target brand because I'm cheap, and I've never had an issue with them. They've always been great.

I don't know about the disposables. But have you tried an extra hemp insert with your cloth? We use Joey-Bunz hemp inserts and night and the hemp absorbs SO MUCH more than the regular insert. Just a thought...

huggies overnights have worked for us. the only time we have a leak is when they drink anything before bedtime. we also use target during the day and i love them.

Jessica Yalung  – (1/24/2013 3:11 PM)

We have used Huggies overnites with Ezra for almost a year. We have already started disposables with Micah at night and when this pack is gone we are switching to overnites. He is definitely my heavy wetter. We actually figured out the disposables at night because always slept in later when we traveled. It finally hit us the disposables at night was key. For us the Huggies overnites make a huge difference!

Can I just say, Mommas are passionate about their diapers! We also use Huggies Overnites in a size up with our daughter. They have worked GREAT for us!

Kelli  – (1/24/2013 3:42 PM)

We use Target all day long and haven't had any issues. If Luke is leaking at night, you may just want to try to go up a size and see if that works. It may not be the brand, he just needs more absorbancy. :)

Erica  – (1/24/2013 5:21 PM)

We use the Pampers Overnights and they work really well for our guy. We very rarely have leaks. I think that an overnight diaper is worth it because they do absorb more.

Taylor Wise  – (1/24/2013 5:40 PM)

I am a believer in Target diapers. Huggies worked for a little while for Parker but we did go up a size. Target has worked best for both my kids. You can also double diaper. :)

My son also soaks everything. I started putting a cheap plastic cover (I use gerber brand- the kind intended to go over an old fashioned prefold) over a doubled up cloth diaper (i use bum genius) and that saves the sheets.

Try pampers cruisers! When I went to visit my mom she bought huggies for us and Aleks leaked every time even during the day! We use the pampers cruisers (the night time ones are smaller and we never liked them) day and night and only have a problem when e needs to go up a size!
