Luke's first haircut

Luke
Today I bit the bullet and took Luke to get his very first haircut. I had knots in my stomach the entire time we were driving to the salon. I kept thinking to myself, "this is going to be terrible." I played it all out in my mind: Luke was going to cry, I was going to have to hold him down, then we'd both be in tears and I'd vow to never do it again. But this haircut HAD to be done. Luke's hair kept getting in his eyes and I was over people asking me about my "little girl." So we did it. Luke got his first haircut, I took entirely too many pictures and guess what? It was a great experience. Not just good, but great.
Look at that sweet face. He did not like getting "spritzed" with the water bottle.
Tip to other mamas who plan to take their littles for a first haircut: Take your iPhone/iPad/other electronic device to distract your little one and keep his chin down while the hairdresser cuts. And take your mom, because only she will understand just how special this little moment really is. :)
I initially told our stylist I just wanted her to trim Luke's bangs so they weren't constantly in his eyes. She responded, "Okay, but you know that's going to give him a mullet. I'm okay with it if that's the look you're going for." Of course I didn't want my precious baby to even be associated with a mullet, so I cringed and told her to "cut it evenly all the way around."
I'm so glad I trusted Jessie's expertise. Luke got a great first haircut, kept most of his curls and looks even cuter than he did before! (I know, I didn't think it was possible either!)
Local friends: If you're looking for a great first haircut place, check out Eden Salon & Spa in Portsmouth. Your little one's first haircut is totally *free* and the staff is so kind, especially if you're a sappy mama like me. Thanks to Jessie (our stylist) for such a great experience!

OH MY GOSH! He looks ADORABLE! As I was reading, my eyes kinda skipped to the second to last picture and I actually did like an "aww" gasp! It is so cute. We did Thomas's first hair cut right after he turned one (we could easily have done it sooner but I wanted to wait). Todd took him to a barber shop... just the guys! He looked precious. I agree with you when you say you didn't realize he could get cuter. That is exactly how I felt!
YAY!! It looks great!!
oh my goodness! i can't get over how cute he looks!
and, ok, i AM hormonal, but i got a little lump in my throat looking at the pics of him sitting like such a big boy in that salon chair! wow! i'll obviously cry (if i'm pregnant...) when my son gets his first cut.
the way things are going now, though, that won't be until he's 7 or so... :)
Girl, these pictures are sooooooo cute!!!! He is precious!!! :) One day, I'm gonna get to hug him.A And you. Mark my words. :) xoxo!
He looks absolutely precious. I too, didn't think he could get cuter....but he did. Great job, Ashley! He's not only cute, he's handsome!!
He looks TOO cute! Love the new cut!
He looks so HANDSOME! I absolutely agree - they did a great job! Way to hold it together mama!
Oh my gosh... he looks so much older. :) So sweet. I need to go get Owen's mullet cut soon. Is that bad at 11 months? hahaha
He is adorable! I really didn't realize he had so many curls! We have yet to get our first haircut. PFB's hair is a curly mess!! My parents said not to cut her hair till she's 14... Don't think I can wait that long though.
Thanks for the tips- I will keep that in mind whenever we do finally make it to the salon :)
He looks so cute! And what cute pictures of him in the chair :) I can't imagine the emotions/worry that come with entrusting someone else with scissors to your baby's precious locks for the first time. Good job!
Awe! So nice that he still has some curls, glad it was a great experience for both of you! :)
